Ron Howard's Call To Action is a hilarious video for Barack Obama, starring himself, Henry Winkler, and Andy Griffith. :-)

Slate Magazine's Christopher Hitchens wrote an insightful article entitled The GOP ticket's appalling contempt for science and learning.

The American Presidency Project presents electoral maps for all presidential elections as well as a lot more information.

ElectoralMaps.org presents slightly more detailed historical electoral map information.

The New York Times' op-chart The Measure of a President presents an interesting comparison of presidents:
During the Presidential campaign, much has been made of Barack Obama’s slender physique, with some commentators going so far as to argue that he is too thin for most Americans to relate to him. Does candidate height and weight play a role in electoral success? With Mr. Obama and John McCain set to square off in the second of three presidential debates tomorrow, it seemed worth taking a look through recent history.

Polish movie posters

wellmedicated came up with 50 Incredible Film Posters From Poland:
When I'm not geeking out over design you can probably find me geeking out over film. I spent a good 7 years of my life working behind the counters of various video stores across Western Canada and consider myself an avid film nerd.

So it's not surprisingly that my jaw nearly hit the floor when a coworker introduced me to the wonderful world of Polish film posters a couple of years ago. These conceptual masterpieces put the original American posters to shame every time; they are truly beautiful works of art. Trimming this list down to a mere 50 posters that I absolutely love was surprisingly difficult.

Very cool...

The Waldo Ultimatum (YouTube video) is a hilarious mash-up of Where's Waldo? and the series of Jason Bourne movies.

CalyxThe Algebraic Surfaces Gallery is cooler than it sounds. Really! ;-)

The BBC reports that "Children's author Eoin Colfer has been chosen to write the sixth of the [Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe] series by [Douglas] Adams' widow Jane Belson." This is just blasphemous...

Knight Rider GPS

RadioShack's Mio Knight Rider GPS actually features William Daniels' (the original K.I.T.T.) voice. Fun, but probably not worth $269...

The FM 100 Hue Test allows you to test your "color IQ." I managed a 12; how about you?

The mash-up video Star Trek meets The A-Team is hilarious. However, Scotty is no Mr. T... ;-p

Eddie Murphy head

I'll have to take Cracked.com's word on the list 15 Images You Won't Believe Aren't Photoshopped...

150 Cover Songs of Madonna, Michael Jackson & Prince was a cool find:
It's hard to believe, but this summer three of America's greatest pop icons - Madonna, Michael Jackson, & Prince - are all celebrating their 50th birthday. So, to help celebrate these three legends turning a half century old, Hypeful has assembled 50 cover songs for each artist to share with you! By the time you finish listening to all 150 covers, it might be time to share a golden years collection of Britney, Justin, and Christina.

SongBlitz is a fairly addictive game where you identify songs by properly dragging the appropriate album cover, while timed of course. Log in if you want to keep track of your cumulative scores...

Star WarsI'm not sure I totally agree with Geeks of Doom's list 11 Reasons Why I Didn't Completely Hate the Star Wars Prequels, but I figured I'd throw it out there...

I'm almost at a loss to try and explain this one. ELA in Love at First Byte (Vimeo video link) is a mesmerizingly craptacular live-action/animated short film. Here's the pitch:
Invasion! E.L.A. is a young girl in love back in home planet Earth. But the power of her love is too big to be limited to solely one being. An extremely bizarre love triangle unravels an invasion of epic proportions, and E.L.A. is set on an adventure to save planet Earth from the evil claws of Havra the Merciless!! Will she succeed on such risky endeavor? What´s the secret weapon that will help her defend us all from utter evilness and total destruction? It´s up to us to find out, on this high-paced special-effects driven adventure ride through space, low compression rates, pixels and love.
Is it just me, or is the opening reminiscent of the He-Man/She-Ra cartoons from the '80s? Check it out; it's so bad it's good... ;-)

Barack Obama as Admiral Ackbar

The Official Star Wars Blog is stretching things a bit in noticing "that by switching around the letters Ackbar you get Barack," but I still think it's hilarious.

By the way, here's a transcript of Obama's acceptance speech last night if you missed it.

Springfield Punx has a bunch of images of pop culture icons done in the style of Simpsons characters. Very fun...

Star WarsStarkiller: The Jedi Bendu Script Site has some lofty goals, including:
To pursue and find (photocopies of) early drafts and screenplays of the original trilogy (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) and the prequel trilogy (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith)."
The site has collected some pretty interesting stuff...

Check out the Intuitor Basic Physics Savvy Quiz. I did decently with an 80%, although I still missed a couple that I shouldn't have in retrospect...

McCain aide Michael Goldfarb recently responded to reporter questions with the quote "It may be typical of the pro-Obama Dungeons & Dragons crowd to disparage a fellow countryman's memory of war from the comfort of mom's basement." It was only a matter of time before someone speculated on what Dungeons & Dragons character John McCain would be. :-)

The New York Times article Is Jon Stewart the Most Trusted Man in America? is a good read...

Mister Rogers

Save Mister Rogers' Neighborhood!
In June 2008, Public Broadcasting Service announced that it intends to soon change the way Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, the beloved children's television program, is distributed to member stations.

PBS will cease transmitting the program as part of their daily syndicated lineup beginning in September. Instead, PBS will provide member stations with a single Neighborhood episode on weekends. This unfortunate decision essentially silences the special nurturing voice of Mister Rogers in the daily lives of today's children.

Local public television stations, who make the final decisions about which programs to offer and when to air them, can still opt to broadcast Mister Rogers' Neighborhood each weekday, but they are less likely to do so without the program being included in PBS's syndicated feed.

We're asking PBS to please reconsider their decision, and allow Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, with its timeless expressions of care for children, to remain a part of their syndicated Monday through Friday schedule.

And we are urging all PBS member stations to do what it takes to ensure that the lives of children in their neighborhoods can still be enriched each weekday by the gentle, authentic, life-shaping messages of Mister Rogers.
