Bigfoot Entertainment today announced that the film score for its award-winning horror/thriller Midnight Movie will be released as a limited collector’s edition CD. Scored by renowned composer and orchestrator Penka Kouneva, the much-anticipated soundtrack will be available on August 13, 2010 via Howlin’ Wolf Records, a record label specializing in film scores for the suspense and horror genres.

Midnight Movie marks Kouneva’s first film score release. An established orchestrator in Hollywood, she is known for her blockbuster scores such as Hostel, Hostel Part II, Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Angels and Demons, and Tim Burton’s 9, and for acclaimed game titles such as Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, World of WarCraft: Cataclysm, Sims 3 and StarCraft II. As a composer, Kouneva has also scored for film titles such as Chupacabra Terror, Ice Spiders and Rough Hustle.

"Penka had a huge challenge with Midnight Movie," said Jack Messitt, Writer and Director of Midnight Movie. "Because there is a movie within our movie, she needed to compose two distinct scores. It was double the work for Penka, but her music made a huge difference to the movie. We didn’t have a lot of money, but this is not a low budget score."

The score for Midnight Movie is an earnest composition with gentle piano in addition to dark string tremolos, brass textures, ambient electronics with heavy percussion and ethereal voices. For The Dark Beneath, the vintage film featured in the storyline, thin, high violins, bassoon, synth patches, and meandering chords for suspense are employed. A newly composed accompanying suite "Darkness And Fear" as well as an expanded cue for "Bridget, Your Father Is Not Here" are bonus features.

This release is a collector’s limited edition featuring the complete score and full color inserts with vivid imagery from the film. Lavishly designed by Luis Miguel Rojas, the 16-page insert booklet includes detailed liner notes by Jack Messitt and Penka Kouneva.

Having premiered in 2008, Midnight Movie won Best Feature Film & Best Cinematography at the Chicago Horror Film Festival, and was selected as DVD of the month for March 2009 by renowned horror film fan publication Fangoria. It is currently available on both Blu-ray and DVD.
